The history of this mansion, formerly located on rue de la Grande Taupe, is linked to a great family of French treasurers.
It was here that Count Pierre-Denis de Peyronnet was born, a famous Bordeaux notable who served as minister to Louis XVIII and then Charles X.
Seized during the French Revolution, the mansion returned to an intense social life when the kings returned, bringing together ministers and notables such as Baron Haussmann, the future architect of Paris.
After the fall of Charles X, Count Pierre-Denis de Peyronnet retired permanently to Bordeaux, where, forced to give up his ministry, he devoted himself to his passion for poetry.
The Hôtel Peyronnet became a meeting place for literary high society, frequented by the great names of the century, as evidenced by the traces of Victor Hugo and Alphonse de Lamartine.
This former town house remains today one of the finest examples of Bordeaux's heritage. The neo-Renaissance touches of its facade, its paved courtyard and its sumptuous stone vestibule, which have been little altered over the decades, preserve the building's period elegance.
